Path Finder

Help me choose my path.

A short set of honest questions. Several ranked paths with from-today timeline, true total cost including lost wages, the top drivers of the ranking, the biggest uncertainties, and what would change the answer.

How this works

You answer, the tool answers back the same way every time. No guessing about you, no third parties looking over your shoulder, no hidden score. Every rule and every number is written out on the methodology page.

Eight short screens, and you can skip any of them with a "not sure." When you submit, the tool walks through your answers, sets aside the paths you can't take yet, sorts the rest by what you said you care about, and shows you the top four or five. Anything that's a real long shot for your situation gets called that, and it never lands at the top of the list.

Path Finder FAQ

How does the Nursing Path Finder rank paths?

Four steps in plain English. First, it sets aside the paths you can't take yet (for example, an accelerated BSN if you don't have a bachelor's degree or enough transfer credits). Second, it labels what's left as Likely, Reach, a real long shot, or not workable as you've described it. Third, it sorts those by what you said you care about: how much it costs (with lost wages counted), how long it takes to RN, whether it fits your goal, whether the schedule works with your life, whether the program is well regarded, whether it lands you in the kind of job you want, and how realistic admission actually looks. Fourth, the top four or five show up as your result cards. A real long shot never ranks first.

Is the Path Finder a guarantee of admission?

No. It is guidance, not a guarantee. The Path Finder does not predict admission, completion, licensure, or employment. Program approval and competitiveness vary by state; always defer to your state Board of Nursing. NursingFloor does not assert that any specific school is approved or that any applicant will be admitted.

Does the Path Finder use my age, race, or personal identity?

No. Age is not an input. Life stage tunes tone and examples only. The Path Finder asks about education, license, prerequisites, healthcare experience, science GPA, work hours, schedule availability, budget, dependents, state, setting preference, top priority, graduate ambitions, and a background-check acknowledgment. Nothing else.

Why does the Path Finder show a band for timeline and cost instead of a single number?

Because a single number would lie. Real timelines depend on prerequisites, application cycle timing, and waitlist length; real costs include not just tuition but books, exam fees, licensure fees, opportunity cost (lost or reduced wages), and childcare delta if applicable. The engine shows min / typical / max for every band so the student sees the honest range. Every band is sourced on the methodology page.

What happens if my GPA is below 2.5?

The engine tags public RN paths as Long-shot. It does NOT confidently rank a public BSN as your best fit, because admission at that GPA is unlikely without raising it first. Instead it surfaces the honest pivot: start as an LPN and bridge to RN; complete a prerequisite GPA-repair plan and reapply in 12-24 months; or look at private programs (with an explicit accreditation guardrail attached, because high-cost fast-track programs vary widely in outcomes).

Is direct-entry MSN the same as becoming a Nurse Practitioner?

No. A direct-entry or entry-level MSN is a generalist RN prelicensure degree. It is NOT an NP or any APRN license. Marketing copy sometimes blurs this. A graduate still needs RN licensure and typically one to two years of bedside experience before starting an NP program.

Can I save my Path Finder result?

Yes. Every result has a shareable link that encodes your answers into the URL. Copy the link from the result page to bookmark, email yourself, or share with an advisor or family member. v1 has no backend; v1.1 will add an optional saved-result account.
